There are many decisions when setting up a freshwater aquarium that are beneficial for the fish that you add to your tank. One commonly overlooked addition is a mystery snail (Pomacea Bridgesii). With many different varieties of shell and skin coloration, the mystery snails are an active addition to an already active tank.
There are many benefits to adding a snail to your aquarium other than a colorful shell moving around your aquarium walls. The mystery snail is a hardy scavenger that prefers to eat decaying plant matter or OSI algae wafers (OSI4996) and Seaweed Delight cubes (SF8202). They are able to live in ranges of water from 65-84 degrees Fahrenheit and pH 6.8-8.4 with all ranges of fish that will not prey on them as a food source. If you are concerned about the safety of the mystery snails in your aquarium you can add shelter or decorations such as the rainbow rock (PP7902) for them to hide in when threatened.
Their breeding habits are unique compared to most fauna kept in aquariums, as they produce egg sacs that hold up to 100 young two to four inches out of the water. After a period of three to five weeks the baby snails emerge and fall to the water to begin searching for food and shelter.
These snails are often kept solo or in small groups to avoid the abundance of pest snails. For aquarists with existing problems with snails the Sera Snail Collect Snail Trap (SER200) is available to make room for mystery snails.
