Abstract

A brief description of the metae cory.

The metae cory (Corydoras metae) is a small catfish fish that is native to the Río Meta, a major tributary of the Río Orinoco in eastern Colombia.  This fish grows to an adult size of up to 2 inches long.  Mature males are smaller and slimmer than females.

The metae cory should be maintained in an aquarium of 29 gallons or larger.  Smooth rocks, driftwood (ZM2000) and live or artificial plants may be used, as well as a fine, soft sand substrate (CS6630).

The metae cory prefers a temperature of 68°F to 78°F, a pH of 6.5 to 7.5, and a hardness of 5 to 12°H.  Be sure water is clean and well oxygenated.

The metae cory is a peaceful fish suitable for a community aquarium.  Good tank mates include other cory catfish, rasboras, tetras, pencil fish, barbs, and otocinclus.  The metae cory is a schooling species and should be maintained in groups of at least 4 to 6.

The metae cory is easy to feed in the aquarium and will readily accept just about any appropriately sized food item.  Good choices include sinking pellets (AL166) and frozen brine shrimp (SF6777).   For maximum color, growth, and health these fish will look their best when given probiotics (AL169) in addition to a balanced diet.
