The lemon glass tetra, or yellow glass tetra (Characidae gen. sp. “Yellow Glass Tetra”) is a small fish native to Peru.  Not a lot of information is available about these small tetras.  Mature fish may reach a size of up to one inch.  Females may tend to be deeper bodied males and males may develop a black line on the lower portion of the tail fin when ready to mate..

                               
The lemon glass tetra should be maintained in an aquarium of 20 gallons or larger.  Smooth rocks, driftwood (ZM2000) and live or artificial plants may be used, as well as a sand substrate (CS7538).  These fish look great in a heavily planted tank with a dark substrate and floating plants to diffuse some of the light..

                                  
The lemon glass tetra prefers a temperature of 74°F to 80°F, a pH of 6.0 to 7.0, and a hardness of 1 to 10°H.  Be sure water is clean and well oxygenated, but doesn't have too much flow.

                                                                     
The lemon glass tetra is a generally a peaceful fish suitable for a community aquarium.  Good tank mates include small livebearers, small rasboras, small tetras and peaceful bottom dwellers such as Corydoras or smaller Loricariids.  Lemon glass tetras should be kept in schools of at least 6 to 8 individuals to promote schooling behaviors.

The lemon glass tetra is easy to feed in the aquarium and will readily accept just about any appropriately sized food item such as flakes (AL165) and frozen brine shrimp (SF6777).   For maximum color, growth, and health these fish will look their best when given probiotics (AL169) in addition to a balanced diet.
