Reef Additives
Reef Complete by Seachem and Tech CB Ionic Calcium by Kent Marine
What they say:
SeaChem Reef Complete
This is a concentrated inorganic calcium with the required
proportions of Strontium and Magnesium required by corals to use calcium. This product should be used to maintain calcium at proper levels, is complimented by the additions of organic calcium products like Reef Calcium.
Reef Code Part A and Part B
This solution is half of an ionically balanced, complete calcium and alkalinity control system for all marine systems. When used together in equal amounts, Reef Code raises both calcium and buffer level. Both parts
contain cationic calcium(calcium carbonate)which leaves an ionic residual similar to sea water. 16 oz treats 1900 gallons.
What Ralph Says:
After fighting calcium levels up and down in my reef tanks, I finally found something that works. I tried kalkwasser, calcium reactors, and everything in between. If you are looking for products that work, try this. First, get your calcium levels up using Reef Builder.
Then, start using the Reef Code part A and part B.
I had to change the frequency of use depending on the system, but once I found out how often it was required, everything in the systems worked. The calcium levels stayed consistent and the corals thrived. I was very happy with the Kent Ionic products. They are a better value than similar products on the market, and in my opinion, work better as well.
The Seachem Reef Complete is a nice product with a good combination of chemicals included. Like everyone else, I find that no single calcium has instructions that everyone can use. The systems vary too much depending on the load of organisms using the elements. This is not the manufacturers fault. It is simply the nature of the hobby. If you want a good starting point with two of the best products in their respective categories, Reef Code is the answer. I would not give any other calcium additive a higher rating. Like everone else, I simply do not like
having to figure out how much calcium and how often to add it. It is a mandatory element for reef tanks. I am hoping the mafufacturers will develop more products that are "no brainers," but they are not on the market yet.
I give Reef Complete and Reef Code Ionic Calcium 3.5 out of 5 stars.
