Lithophyllon coral

Scientific Name: Lithophyllon Undulatum

Temperament: has a fairly powerful sting but tentacles are usually short and do not have sweepers

Lithophyllon coral come from the Indian and Pacific and parts of Borneo. They are a considerably rare coral and not often found in the hobby. This coral is considered Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN red list. Lithophyllon is sometimes confused with fungid coral (fungia, cycloseris, diaseris, etc.).  If you want to compare this coral with fungia and cycloceris corals then you can think of them as single polyp organisms while lithophyllons are multy polyp "colonial" organisms. Lithos start out encrusting, but when they reach a certain size they begin to leave the attached base and plate, growing outwards. When it comes to feeding, this coral can be fed meaty foods such as brine and Mysis shrimp. Lighting for this coral ranges from low to medium, with low being the preffered at no more than 100par. With this lighting requirements the coral is usually placed at the bottom of the tank. When it comes to flow these coral like a gentle stimulation of random flow.
